Update from Junior Chairman, Keith Andrews

We are fast approaching that time of the year when the Cricket season moves outside to the Club ground at Townfield Lane from the relative comforts of the indoor nets at Birkenhead School.

The first Summer Friday training and registration night is FRIDAY 26th April 2019.

It is sad to report that the turnout at winter nets this year has been extremely poor compared to other years. This is especially so for the u11 and U13 age groups. Some weeks we have had only 1 or 2 players per age group attending! Those who have turned up have been putting a lot of effort into improving their technique. Hopefully this is just a blip caused by other activities plus the usual things like rugby or football training etc and will pick up when we move outside in a few weeks, fingers crossed.

At this point I would appeal to every member (and it is just as incumbent on senior team players, as existing juniors, parents, guardians, carers) to help, in what is always a continuous recruitment drive to expand our membership across all junior age ranges. The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 may provide some momentum but please help promote our Club!

We are running the ECB national ALL Stars programme on Tuesday’s (Under 9’s new to the club and cricket only). For more details or to register please visit: http://www.allstarscricket.co.uk/

Summer Friday Training:
Our 2019 outdoor training (weather depending) is as follows,
Under 9’s - 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Under 11’s, 13’s and 15’s – 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Junior girls can train on either a Friday, with the boys, or on Tuesday evenings from 6pm (hardball cricket ONLY). For those age groups who play hardball cricket please ensure they bring along trainers (for nets) as well as cricket boots (outfield) each week.

Current members should have received an invite to take advantage of the on-line registration and payment process. NEW members need to register via the Club website or at registration night.

This year we are undertaking the national ClubMark Certification full audit once again, and will therefore be asking ALL junior players to have an up to date/signed Health and Consent form registered with the Club. This will be requested for completion in the coming weeks.

For 2019 the Club’s Ian Gauntlett (2nd XI Captain and ECB Coach) will be organising Friday Junior Cricket nights across all age groups and linking up with their coaches and managers. On this matter we still need help to organise and manage both the u11 and u13 age groups, this is especially so for Sunday morning league matches, if you can help please contact Ian or the Chairman Junior Cricket. Without a responsible adult in charge of the teams on Sunday, matches cannot take place. Please get involved, we are urgently appealing for ‘new blood’ to get involved and help us move forward and continue our Club’s junior player development.

Club Clothing:
Our partnership agreement with SportsVille of Greasby continues in 2019, we have a new main sponsor in MBE
Construction Ltd. A link to the on-line shop is available via the Club website or if you
prefer why not visit the shop.

Events at the Club 2019:

PCA England Masters:
The Club is hosting the PCA England Master XI on Friday 21st June 2019. This is one of the key fund raising events
of the year providing valuable revenue to allow us to develop the Club. This is a fantastic opportunity to see former
England international cricketers at Oxton. Support your Club at this event and come along.
Other Social Events will be organised throughout the summer, please look out for the adverts and communications!

PLEASE make use of the CLUB Website, we will be adding more to this over the coming weeks and throughout the season. Let us know if your contact details for mobiles and importantly email have changed or let us know your email details if you have not been receiving club e-shots etc.
