Other Tennis Information
**Health & Safety Awareness**

1. Entry to the grounds.!!!!!!!!
Increased security to protect the club, facilities and members, has resulted in the access gate having a closing mechanism in place which means the gate will no longer remain open. You will need to bring your membership card with you to access the reader which is to the left of the gate. When leaving there is a button to the right of the gate which needs pressing before the gate is pulled open.

2. Padel Construction
As of October 20th work will begin on the Padel courts. As you will be aware these courts are very close to the tennis courts. Members must take care when walking around the area and be mindful that there is building work in progress.
Home Captains must advise visiting teams of this information to limit any problems/incidents.

3. Cricket Balls!
Whenever there is cricket activity on the go members must ensure they take care when walking towards the tennis courts that cricket balls aren't accidentally heading their way!
The route taken to the tennis courts should be outside the boundary lines and as far from the cricket pitches as possible.
Captains must make visiting teams aware of the please.

!!!!!!!!!!WANTED!!!!!!!!!!
1. 2025 AGM BUSINESS
At the AGM later this year/early next year 2 positions will require filling. The Secretary and Safeguarding Officer.
Both current holders will be taking a step back at the AGM.
The Secretary's role is not onerous and keeps the section ticking over with much help from other committee members. The safeguarding officer is a more important role to fill as the LTA insist that every club has a current named safeguarding officer who has completed online LTA training. In short we simply must have a safeguarding officer in place.
The reason for making the request for interest so early is so you have plenty of time to consider either role. This gives opportunity for those interested parties in the secretary role to have a full handover leading up to the AGM. And for those interested in the Safeguarding role opportunity to complete an online safeguarding course in October which the incoming person would need to complete to ensure we have met the requirements for the LTA going into the 2026 season. This role may suit those who already have a safeguarding qualification however the LTA courses are a must in addition to any other qualification.
With the tennis section flourishing nicely it is timely for new blood in both roles.
SO - please consider both roles and if interested speak with Mike Withy for safeguarding information and Glynis Lomax for secretary information.
We are a small club and we need for those who can to actively be a part of the committee structure to help the section continue to flourish!
I will continue to advertise for the roles on a very regular basis - not filling them isn't really an option!!!!!

Update 25th August - happily the role of safeguarding officer has been picked up - but that doesn't stop anyone else interested in also signing up.
Secretary role is still up for grabs!!!!

2. Person on the Ground!!

Mike is relinquishing his role as "Man on the ground" which has involved his keeping on top of routine maintenance that needs attention. The groundsman should do the bulk of the work however the smaller more routine stuff gets out of hand if we don't keep on top of it.
We are not looking for Mike to be replaced - (not possible!!) and this is not a committee position - just someone to take responsibility for walking the courts and hut on a regular basis and letting the Secretary know what needs doing BEFORE the area becomes unsightly and unkempt and repair work is done timely.
The Secretary can then ensure that jobs to be done (depending on the job) are either sent via our reps to the main committee for the groundsman or b) the committee can organize a day when we get together and do a number of the smaller jobs ourselves.
Not an onerous role but an important one given we use the courts and we need them to be safe and kept.
Not a time consuming job and we are looking for someone not on the committee to take this role on (We believe in sharing the love!).
Please consider and contact the Secretary if you are interested.
This of course does not prevent anyone from identifying issues needing attention to the Secretary but it does mean we have a regular check of the area.
We are indebted to Mike for his work up to now but every good man deserves a rest!! Thanks Mike.
